Alzheimer's Disease
We raise awareness for different neurological disorders, through social media posts, creation of specific resources and links to professional resources as well as places to support people with these disorders.
-Alzheimer's Disease is a neurological disorder that affects one's ability to think, carry out tasks, and remember certain things. This happens because neurons (also known as brain cells or nerve cells) aren't able to function correctly to work with one another. This causes the connections that were once created between the neurons to carry out tasks, are unable to do those tasks anymore, causing the cells to die.
-Those who have Alzheimer's Disease are typically 65 and older--meaning that the older one gets, the more likely they are to have it. It is also progressive and gets worse over time. Typically, a patient will live 4 to 8 years after a diagnosis
-Alzheimer's Disease is the 7th leading cause of death and the leading cause of dementia.
-Many new studies are coming out about the disease, especially about new medications which slow cognitive decline in Alzheimer's patients. However, there are currently no cures for Alzheimer's yet.
